Power lithium batteries have become the benchmark for performance comparison of electric vehicles. In fact, the key to determine the performance of lithium battery is the cathode material. Its performance directly determines the main performance indicators of lithium batteries, accounting for more than 30% of the total cost. At present, lithium cobalt oxide, lithium manganate, lithium iron phosphate and NCM (nickel, cobalt and manganese) ternary materials have been commercially used as cathode materials for lithium batteries. At the early stage of the development of domestic electric vehicles, the power battery is dominated by the battery using lithium iron phosphate cathode material. Although the cycle life of the battery made of this cathode material is good, the energy density is relatively low, which leads to the relatively short range of electric vehicles. The high nickel ternary materials can significantly improve the energy density of lithium batteries, and can store more energy per unit volume or weight of batteries, thus gradually becoming the mainstream of the passenger car power battery market.
