Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering also known as GATE is an all-India examination conducted and administered by the prestigious Indian Institute of Science and seven IITs. GATE is organised by the National Coordination Board, Department of Higher Education, MHRD, and Government of India.

 

These exams are known as the perfect yardstick to measure and test the calibre of engineering students. It is a myth that the GATE exams are meant for ME./M.Tech which finally leads to a teaching career only.

In this blog, let’s look at The GATE advantage:

 

Many PSUs such as BHEL, Indian Oil Corporation, NTPC, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre are using the GATE score for selecting candidates. Selected students get a stipend of Rs 8,000 per month during the M.Tech course. Better remuneration is offered to students of M.Tech/M.E as compared to those pursuing B.Tech /B.E. A decent GATE rank assures an excellent job. After completing the M.Tech., at IITs and IISc, you are entitled to get a salary package ranging between Rs 7 lakh to 30 lakh per annum.

 

After clearing GATE, you can also sign up for Junior Research Fellowship in CSIR Laboratories. M.Tech. Is mandatory for the ones looking to apply for research positions in R&D centres. The GATE score is valid for two years, and the ones who qualify are eligible for a Master’s degree at the National University of Singapore.

Raising GATE aspirants

From 1.66 lakh in 2008, the number of aspirants touched 8 lakh in 2013. It is one of the most rigorous examinations and aims at testing the students’ capability in engineering concepts along with managerial skills. Engineering subjects cover 70% weight, while General aptitude and Engineering Mathematics cover 15%.

 

The 3 GATE paper has a total of 65 questions, out of which 30 questions are one mark each and 35 questions are two marks each. To score high, you need to keep in mind that you are judged relatively and not entirely.
