Linear actuator

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am attempting to build a machine with a telescopic linear actuator as part of it. I have found a prototype that seems to be an ideal mechanism I am looking for, but I am unsure on how it works. Does anyone have any idea about the design details that make an actuator like this function? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

If that's the air pressure gauge on a side, than it must have some sort of an air pump. If so, I'm guessing the capacity of this thing wouldn't be high. I mean it wouldn't be able to lift a car by itself.

I'm guessing there is an air pump and some sort of an air bag (so that it could expand).

There are many ways that such a device can be made, and what Jek says may be the way this one works. It can also be done with a ball screw powered by a small electric motor. Without more details, no one will be able to say with certainty how t this one works.
