what type of motor do I need?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am trying to solve an issue for my wife and I'm not sure where to start, so I am looking for some help.

I am wondering what type of motor I should buy to build a machine that would turn approximately 1-2 rotation a second, and be strong enough to push/pull something on wheels that weighs approximately 50 pounds. I am aware that saying "push/pulls" something that is 50 pounds is very vague due to the multitude of additional factors but I'm fairly incompetent in this field to provide something more exact.

I am looking for a motor that could run for multiple hours, could be plugged into the wall, and could vary in speed with a switch. I am hoping someone could tell me the proper motor (AC/DC, maybe a model?), or a website that sells motors?

I've included a cheesy drawing to provide an idea of what I'm hoping to make.

Thanks for the help in advance!
