Convergent nozzle increase the velocity or kinetic energy of the flow. Here basic concept is area of cross section is small and according to the equation of continuity which tells that for every cross section area is inversely proportional to the velocity of flow hence velocity increase and the opposites case is in divergent where area is increased hence Velocity decreases

in converging nozle..........the fluid flow from this cross sectional area there velocity increase due to pressure energy converted into kinetic energy why because its area decreases,

diverging nozzle just work opposite to the converging nozzle here area increase then kinetic energy converted into pressure energy.

in diverging nozzle  pressure increase and velocity decrease,,,,,,,, But in converging nozzle pressure decrease velocity increase,
