Carburetor- A device in an internal combustion engine for mixing air with a fine spray of liquid fuel.

The carburetor has several functions:

  1. It combines gasoline and air creating a highly combustible mixture
  2. It regulates the ratio of air and fuel, and
  3. It controls the engine's speed.

Carburetor types:-

1. Based on barrels

  • One barrel 
  • Two barrel 
  • Four barrel

2. Based on drafts

  • Natural or side draft
  • Updraft
  • Downdraft

Special types of carburetors:-

  • Solex Carburetors
  • Carter Carburetors
  • S.U. Carburetors
